Trauma Surgeon and Study. Meet the Professor at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth and the Director of the Surgical Critical Care Fellowship Program as well. He is also Co-Director of the Shock–Trauma ICU at Memorial Hermann Hospital. Trauma surgery is the branch of surgical medicine that deals with treating injuries caused by an impact like a severe fall. Traumatic injuries can affect internal organs, bones, the brain, and the other soft tissues of the body. Learn about the Cryostat-2 Trial – Studying effects of a frozen blood component in trauma patients - Investigator: Dr. Cotton, Professor, Surgery. This physician will speak about the need to do this study in the emergency patient population. Cryostat-2 is an international trial, which will run at all major trauma centers in England and at 8 international centers. At least 4 United States Level 1 trauma center sites will participate, including Memorial Herman Hospital Texas Medical Center and University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. The doctor will talk about trauma in general (it’s one of the most common causes for death) and specifically about his new research study Cryostat-2 Trial.
