Join us in exploring the birds of Kleb Woods Nature Preserve. From warblers to woodpeckers and herons to hawks, we are sure to find beautiful birds to observe and photograph! All ages and levels of experience welcome. Please bring your own equipment, water, and bug spray, etc. Walks leave from the Nature Center.
Volunteer and retired teacher Barbara Pankratz will give a talk on World War II pilots who survived crashes. While some (such as Louis Zamperini, the Olympic medalist who was the subject of Unbroken) are well known, many of these stories are not and risked being lost to time. Her interest in this topic spans nearly 40 years to when she first read Coming into the County by John McPhee. This interest was furthered by 81 Days Below Zero and her travels, which took her to the sights of multiple crashes. She has also been fortunate enough to meet (or be photographed) with four of the airman whose stories will be shared. She would also like to encourage everyone in attendance to share stories they have from those who have survived plane crashes.
Join us to witness hummingbirds in peak migration! Learn everything you want to know about them, including identifying, attracting and gardening for hummingbirds. Enjoy games and activities for the whole family. Take a guided nature walk, tour the 1896 Kleb house, and see blacksmith demonstrations throughout the day.
Admission is free. Patrons are encouraged to bring their own refreshments. Drinks and snacks will not be sold.
