BBB "Cardiovascular Genetic Testing & Medicare Scams" 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM
BBB "Cardiovascular Genetic Testing & Medicare Scams" 10/6/2021 10:00 AM - 10/6/2021 11:00 AM
Genetic testing fraud has morphed into “Cardiovascular” genetic testing. Scammers are offering Medicare beneficiaries genetic testing cheek swabs to obtain Medicare information for fraudulent billing purposes or possibly medical identity theft. With Medicare Open Enrollment (October 15- December 7), scammers will present themselves as government officials. These thieves contact individuals by phone, email, text, or door to door, asking questions about their health insurance, or offering to replace current cards with new ones. You have the power to take control by knowing the facts! Join a speaker from the Better Business Bureau to learn how to make sure your Medicare information does not fall into the wrong hands.

Cancelled - Museum of Fine Arts "Who Are You Wearing? Fashion as an Indicator of Status and Position in Society" 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM
Museum of Fine Arts "Who Are You Wearing? Fashion as an Indicator of Status and Position in Society" 10/18/2021 10:00 AM - 10/18/2021 11:00 AM
Cancelled
What a person wears has a direct relationship to a culture’s religious beliefs, power structure, rites of passage and economic level. The clothing, or in Museum terms, costume, can also be considered an art form and a means of self-expression. Wearing a toga identified a Roman citizen, in later centuries the wearing of elaborate silks and brocades signified the person as a member of the ruling class, while modern fashion can be somewhat of a mystery. Fashion has served as an impetus for trade and the development of the industrial manufacture of cloth. The importance of the varying aspects of fashion will be explored through examples from the MFAH’s Costume Institute as well as paintings and sculpture in the Museum’s collections.
