Commissioner Tom Ramsey's Statement on the I-45 Expansion Project Settlement

“Commissioner Cagle and I have seen the importance of and supported this project from the beginning. The enhancement of I-45 is crucial and has been in the planning phase for over 15 years. This will give our neighbors in the south an improved evacuation route from hurricanes. This will revitalize our nation’s trading lifelines by providing the Port of Houston a better route for transporting goods. This will contribute to solving one of our region’s biggest problems – flooding. With $2.5B worth of drainage improvements included in the plans, this was a project we could not afford to lose. From the beginning, the design has been about making downtown Houston more livable and a shining center of commerce for the region.

I’d like to thank TxDOT for their patience and crucial investment in Harris County. After an unnecessary two-year delay, I’m relieved to put this lawsuit behind us, and ready to move Harris County on the path forward to a more resilient future.”

Please note, there is a public hearing happening Thursday, December 22 at Commissioners Court. Visit https://agenda.harriscountytx.gov/ for more information.
