Family Cultural Series Kicks Off this Summer at Mercer Arboretum and Botanic Gardens

HARRIS COUNTY, TX – From songs and dances from the Pacific Islands to ballet and poetry, Mercer Arboretum and Botanic Gardens invites the public to activities that showcase arts from around the globe.

The following programs are brought to Mercer in partnership with the Young Audiences of Houston.

• Story time with Silambam, June 10, 6 p.m. Experience Indian folktales through music and dance.

• Polynesian Storytelling, June 11 at 1 p.m., June 17 at 6 p.m., July 19 at 3 p.m. Participate in the traditions of the Pacific Islands through song and dance.

• Dance of the Insects, June 21 at 3 p.m. and July 15 at 6 p.m. Join us for a performance combining both modern ballet and poetry.

• Mr. Leo’s Puppet Show, July 9, 1 p.m. Get lost in stories and fables told through puppetry.

• Wooden O: Interactive Sensory Adventure, July 22, 6 p.m. See Shakespeare’s tale come to life in a child’s imagination.

In addition to this event series, Mercer also offers regularly scheduled programming that includes bee education, lessons in wildlife, story times, morning hiking, and plant species education.

Mercer Arboretum and Botanic Gardens boasts over 10,000 cataloged plants, and each season brings a new bloom to discover. It is award winning and one of the nation’s last free public botanic gardens. The Gardens are located at 22306 Aldine Westfield Road in Humble. To register for summer events or to learn more, visit www.pct3.com/mbg
