Precinct 3 Completes Major Channel Improvements to Protect 2,000 Cypress Homes from Flooding

HARRIS COUNTY, TX – The Office of Precinct 3 Commissioner Tom S. Ramsey, P.E. announces the completion of the widening of Channel E-132 in Cypress, a tributary of White Oak Bayou.

The $28 million flood mitigation project converts an earthen channel to a 1.2-mile reinforced concrete-lined system to increase conveyance and capacity. By widening the channel and converting it to concrete, this reduces erosion, improves flow efficiency, and helps safeguard approximately 2,000 homes from flooding during major storm events. It also supports ongoing resiliency and recovery projects in nearby neighborhoods.

“The completion of Channel E-132 upgrades gives thousands of residents a greater peace of mind during severe weather and marks a major step forward in flood risk reduction for the Cypress community,” said Commissioner Tom S. Ramsey, P.E. “This project also reflects the use of great engineering put forth by professionals with knowledge of this community and its needs for better stormwater conveyance.”

This project was constructed by MC² Civil and funded through the 2018 HCFCD Bond Program.
