HARRIS COUNTY, TX – “I am holding firm to my original proposal of $20M to fund 200 additional patrol officers for the Sheriff and Constables offices countywide. This is a priority to address crime.

I do support funding the Harris County Flood Control District with an additional $24M to keep our region on the right path towards flood resiliency.

I am also holding firm to the fact that we need tax relief. We have a $2.1B budget currently in effect yet Judge Hidalgo and Commissioners Garcia and Ellis are advocating for $256M in additional revenue. I do not agree with that, especially with their poor track record in wasteful spending.

Lastly, I’d like to address the confusion that is being created through distortions. Commissioner Garcia’s claim that I canceled a meeting is not true. I’ve been communicating with County Attorney Christian Menefee on potential proposals. Also, ‘negotiating in good faith’ should not include blocking infrastructure projects for Precincts 3 and 4; however, that’s what Commissioner Garcia has done. We need Judge Hidalgo to exhibit good leadership.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – Harris County has a spending problem, not a revenue problem.”
