Harris County Precinct 3 Begins Construction Along Memorial Drive
HARRIS COUNTY, TX – Harris County Precinct 3 has begun construction on a $2.5 million roadway improvement project along Memorial Drive, spanning from Chimney Rock Road to San Felipe Street.
Funded in partnership with METRO, this project will enhance roadway conditions through the cities of Piney Point Village and Hunters Creek Village, a vital corridor traveled daily by thousands of residents commuting through the Houston area.“
Memorial Drive is a heavily traveled roadway that serves not only local residents, but also commuters, and various school zones,” said Precinct 3 Commissioner Tom Ramsey. “Given the volume of daily traffic along this corridor, maintaining safe and reliable road conditions is critical to protecting drivers and ensuring the long-term performance of this important roadway.”
To celebrate the project’s kickoff, Commissioner Ramsey was joined by METRO Interim President and CEO Thomas Jasien, METRO Board Member Bob Fry, Houston Mayor John Whitmire, Piney Point Village Mayor Aliza Dutt, and Hunters Creek Village Mayor Jim Pappas. Efforts like these showcase the importance of partnerships in ensuring safe infrastructure for all.
Crews will work on milling and completing localized base repairs. The final product will be a newly resurfaced asphalt roadway with reflective striping for added visibility. These enhancements will improve ride quality, safety, and extend the lifespan of the pavement.
Construction is expected to last approximately six months. The contractor for the project is Durwood Greene Construction, and the design engineer is WBS.
