Precinct 3 Commissioner Tom Ramsey Officially Opens the Doors on Judge Ted Poe Community Center

HARRIS COUNTY, TX – Last year, 340,000 people visited Precinct 3 community centers, and that number is expected to grow with the opening of the Judge Ted Poe Community Center in the Lake Houston area.

Precinct 3 Commissioner Tom Ramsey and former U.S. Rep. Ted Poe marked the official opening of the facility this week with a community celebration. The 8,500-square-foot center is the ninth community center in Precinct 3 and includes classrooms, community meeting rooms, a kitchen, and a coffee bar.

The project fulfills two objectives of the Precinct 3 Parks and Trails Master Plan: expanding access to community centers in the Lake Houston area and improving trail connectivity to nearby Atascocita Park.

“This community center represents what public service is meant to do - bring people together and strengthen the neighborhoods we serve,” said Precinct 3 Commissioner Tom Ramsey. “Naming this facility after Judge Ted Poe honors his decades of service and advocacy for the Lake Houston area, and it’s fitting that his legacy will live on in a place where families, seniors, and neighbors can connect for years to come.”

Poe represented the Atascocita and Humble areas in Texas’ 2nd Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives from 2005 to 2019. He also served as a Harris County district judge from 1981 to 2003.

The Judge Ted Poe Community Center is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. A monthly activities calendar is available at www.pct3.com/Explore/Community-Centers. For more information, email judgetedpoecc@pct3.hctx.net or call 346-286-3500.
